Pitti Palace guided tour
Visit the most impressive palace in Florence!
We offer a unique way to explore the residence of Pitti Palace.
The building, commissioned in 1458, was originally home to the famous banker Luca Pitti, but was bought by the Medici family in 1549. In 1737 it was passed on to the Asburgo-Lorenas, then played an important role for the Savoia royal family during the unification of Italy, when Florence became the nation's capital from 1865-1870. Finally, in 1919, Pitti Palace was donated to the Italian state by Victor Emmanuel III.
Today you can admire some of the most important pieces of Renaissance art here, from Raphael to Tiziano and Caravaggio. Inside you will also find the Gallery of Modern Art, with works by the Macchiaioli, as well as other important museums like the Treasury of the Grand Dukes, the Museum of Costume and Fashion, the Museum of Porcelain, the Carriage Museum and, last but not least, the beautiful Boboli Gardens.
During your visit you will be fascinated by the amazing and elegant decor, including fresco paintings and mesmerizing architecture by some of the greatest designers of the Renaissance, from Brunelleschi to Luca Fancelli and Bartolomeo Ammannati to Niccolo Tribolo and Vasari. The awe-inspiring ceiling was painted by Cortona in the impressive Baroque style, depicting allegories from the house of Medici.
In 2022, Pitti Palace also celebrated the 70th anniversary of Italy's first fashion show, held in the Sala Bianca.
On our two-hour guided tour, our guide will tell you every secret and rumor of the Medici family and all the other powerful people who lived in this residence, and show you everything from the lovely gardens in the typical Italian style to the beauty of the Renaissance and Neoclassical periods.
You will enjoy one of the most stunning buildings in Florence and hear the thrilling stories of how Cosimo de Medici ruled all of Florence and Tuscany from the palace's apartments, plus the stories of intrigue surrounding his family and his wife, Eleonora di Toledo.
