Best restaurants in Rome

September is one of the most beautiful months to soak up the glory that is Rome. And in my opinion, the perfect month for an outdoor dinner. There are so many options for great food here, but when it comes to dining al fresco, here are some of my favorites:

  1. Roma Sparita (Rome Disappeared) – Not only is this deemed one of THE best cacio e pepe dishes in all of Rome, this restaurant is situated within a beautiful, quiet square away from all the hustle and bustle of Trastevere. But it is no longer Rome’s best kept secret, as it once was. So be sure to book a table in advance. Or show up as soon as they open so you can claim a spot outside. Tables will disappear in no time!  http://www.romasparita.com/en/
  2. Piazza della Coppelle – The main draw is not the food but the scene. There is some top-notch people watching opportunities in this square. I stumbled upon this secret square in the shadows of the Pantheon, quite by accident one night. But what I found was a buzzing scene of Italy’s who’s who. Each time I go, there seems to be an exclusive event or party taking place here. Eat outside at Osteria delle Coppelle, who’s menu has some interesting options, and then after grab a drink at one of the best speakeasys in Rome right next door at Club Derriere. http://osteriadellecoppelle.com/

  1. Di Rienzo is in Piazza della Rotonda, literally right outside of the Pantheon. While I normally wouldn’t suggest dining so close to main historic sites, this makes my list for three simple reasons. Your plain view of the Pantheon (perhaps my most favorite of all the monuments), the amatriciana was surprisingly good (and not too costly considering), and last but not least Roberto, the best waiter (and all-around guy) in Rome. http://www.ristorantealpantheon.it/en/
  2. Flavio Velavevodetto – there are two locations in Rome but the Testaccio outpost has a courtyard and rooftop terrace. And the best carbonara I have ever eaten in Rome! http://www.ristorantevelavevodetto.it/en/
  3. This last one may be a bit pricey, but this is bar far one of the best views in the city. With food to match. Michelin star Aroma’s rooftop terrace overlooking the Colosseum is perfect for a romantic evening by yourself or with that special someone. http://www.aromarestaurant.it/en/
